About a month ago we hosted the very first Design Center Giveaway and I could not have been happier for the winner. I was super excited to work with Kathy on a custom design! This was our experience…
I received this in an email from Kathy
| Style | Hobo Bag {15″ wide x 12″ deep} |
|---|---|
| Handles | Shoulder Straps |
| Pockets | None, but 2 compartments |
| Embellishments | Embroidered Name |
| Your Design Colors and Other Info | Something bright for summer. Maybe navy blue with hot pink accents. Or hot pink with other multi-colored accents. I would love my initials monogrammed – kls- (L as in Lynn) or my name. Is there a way to get 2 compartments with 1-2 pockets? |
And then I sent her a few more specific questions and this picture
She loved it! Yeah! And so the making of her design was underway!

Here is Kathy’s Custom Design!
I loved making this bag with Kathy! I asked her a few questions and this is what Kathy had to say about the Design Center, the Custom Design process, and having a bag that is uniquely her:
1. What did you like about using the Design Center?
It was easy to use!! I liked the different categories and the different options. I particularly liked the “other comment” section where I could add a few notes about my description or clarify my thoughts. I also liked the correspondence I got before my bag was started so I knew Heather would make just what I was looking for.
2. Can you tell me why you chose that specific design?
I chose the design because I like having a big bag, but appreciate a divider to help keep the bag from being a catch-all. I also like the handles long enough to sling on a shoulder, but with the bow (designer’s choice!!), I can shorten them if I want to carry it with my hands. I love a few pockets so that my phone and keys don’t get lost. AND… the monogrammed initials make the bag – MINE!
3. Any advice for someone who is using the design center to place a custom order?
I’m a very calculated kind of girl. I like things very specific. HOWEVER, don’t be afraid to chose “Designer’s Choice” as an option for one (or more) of your choices. Heather’s very talented and it was fun to have her give me an idea or two about the bag — and then be surprised with the final product (while loving all the aspects b/c I had been “picky” and we had communicated). Can’t get better than that!
4. I was planning on naming this design after you. (KLS bag) Can you give me three words that describe you and this bag?
I googled a list of “k” adjectives and found that the first one: “keen” fit me in all 3 descriptions:
- keen – There are at least three distinct ways to use keen:
- It can mean sharp-witted
- It can also mean eager, enthusiastic or very interested.
- And finally, “keen” can mean strongly felt or intense
This video looks great. It’s simple & the pictures are wonderful. If you wanted, you could point out or highlight the various form fields while you talk about them in step one. That would just highlight the different areas.
I hope you add more videos with “tours” of your handbags — it would be great to see them in your hands and you explaining the different features.
I totally agree with Kathy! I can’t wait to make more videos for you lovelies! {Sorry this post is exclamation heavy but I just can’t help it…haha}
I have also had the pleasure of making a second KLS Bag. I hope you enjoyed all the pictures and designing process in today’s post. And to finish it off well, here are a few more. Have a wonderful day and I hope you feel inspired!
Thank you Kathy for being such an inspiration and helping to design a fantastic Blue Stitch Bag!
